The process of learning how to use Premiere Pro was relatively easy with the Tutorial videos provided to help us learn. The instructor speaking in the tutorials did an amazing job of explaining how to use the tools, what each of the sections in the screen meant, and what shortcuts and tips make using Premiere Pro easier. It made me feel less overwhelmed and the learning process went by a lot smoother. When I first looked at the layout of Premiere Pro, I felt very overwhelmed and I thought that learning how to use Premiere would be very difficult. After watching the videos, though, I realized that using Premiere Pro was a lot easier than I thought. With the videos, I went through the process of learning each and every skill I needed to use Premiere efficiently. The videos went through how to add a certain clip between two other clips and how to mute a certain line of audio.
Creating the clip was very fun for me because I felt very accomplished every time the footage came out the way I wanted it to. After watching the videos, creating the clip was very easy and I felt very proud of my clip at the end of editing. There were certain times when I struggled with remembering which controls did what I needed them to. In the process of editing, I learned new shortcuts along the way. For example, I learned when cutting a clip, it leaves a space between the clips it was in between. When you right click on the empty space, it brings the two clips back together. All the shortcuts and tools I learned how to use made the making of the clip simple and enjoyable.
A challenge I had when creating the clip was transitioning the clips of B-Roll and the guitar riff audio with the interview footage and audio. When I put in the clips of BRoll with the guitar riff audio over it, I added it in the beginning of the clip, so the interview clips did not feel abrupt and awkward. The issue I had was the abrupt transition from the end of the guitar riff to the start of the first interview. My success was that I figured out that if I add a soundbite of the end of the guitar riff audio to the guitar riff used with the BRoll footage, it transitions smoothly. Another issue I had was figuring out how to end the clip in a satisfying way. After the last interview clip, the clip ended with just a black screen which made the end very sudden. My success was figuring out, since I used BRoll clips shot during the day, I could use BRoll clips that showed the Pineapple Whip Stand at night with the end of the guitar riff in the background. This made the ending of my clip much better and has a very satisfying ending.
Throughout the process of completing the clip, I learned helpful tips on making my creation process easier. One of them is being able to create bins in the files section. The bins are files that you can add certain pieces of Media you uploaded into Premiere. It makes the workspace very organized and less overwhelming, especially if you have a lot of raw footage to work with. It is also very convenient that you can name the bins, so you know what is in each bin. This is where the bins are located in the workspace.
With the new information and skills, I learned, I will be practicing editing hopefully in future class projects. It will give me much needed practice for my portfolio project. My hope is that with what I learned, I will be able to work on more complex editing projects than this one. In this assignment, we were given simple requirements that were very easy to achieve. For the next editing practice project, I hope we have more requirements or more complex standards to meet.
This video editing practice project is extremely helpful for me with my portfolio project. I gave me the skills to edit future videos I have to make for my portfolio including the movie intro and any other video clips I have to make for my analysis. With the new skills and knowledge, I learned, I am now able to truly express my creativity through my work to the best of my ability.
This is the finished clip!
